The Top 2 Questions Every Team Needs to Ask

The healthiest teams in the world, whether in the ministry or in the marketplace have laser focus on two questions. They ask them frequently, and they ask them together:

(1) Who are we here to serve?

(2) How well are we serving them?

Check it out for yourself. Think of a product, service, and yes even your local church, and you will see the presence (or absence) of these questions. A team that has spent time focusing on these questions provides an ever improving quality of service or product for their chosen market. Quality takes time. Quality takes focus. Quality takes work.

But these questions need to come with a warning! The answers may be hard to find, and unpleasant when you do find them! Yet they must be explored. We must get clarity on exactly who it is that the Lord has called us to serve, and we must ask how well we are doing.

Let me encourage you to take a few moments and ask yourself, and ask your team, these two crucial questions this week. And then again the week after. And the week after that. Soon you will develop a habit of focusing on who you are here to serve (hint, God needs to be the first answer to that question!) and how well you are serving them.

Then let the answers to these questions influence your decisions and your actions. Learn from these answers and make adjustments to your direction and processes accordingly.

God has called us to a life of service my friends. First of all to Himself, and also to the individuals, families and communities that He has placed us with. Why not take a few moments to ask the Lord? Ask Him who He would like you to serve, and how well you are currently achieving that outcome? What can you do this week to improve the clarity of who it is you would like to serve? What can you do to measure and improve the quality of your service?
